White Out Shirt Design Selected

Today the Georgia Tech athletic department announced the winning design of the fan poll for the White Out game vs. Miami Hurricanes. The winner garnered 43% of the votes, 12% more than the second place shirt.

The shirts will become available in mid-September at the campus bookstore and online at ramblinwreck.com ahead of the October 4 contest.

Uniform Mystery Solved?

While most teams are announcing alternates and one offs for the upcoming college football season, Georgia Tech fans have been left in the dark as to what the Yellow Jackets will be wearing on Saturdays.

Recently, we reported that nearly all of the institute’s print media for the upcoming season depicted players wearing the throwbacks worn in 2013, however at Media Day and Fan Day the team wore a different jersey. The jersey can be pieced together through a series of partially obstructed views in photographs posted to the Georgia Tech Swarm forums by John (no last name given). The jerseys appear to be identical to the 2013 home jerseys with one exception, the ACC logo has been updated. This alteration signals that the Yellow Jackets (unfortunately) plan to wear these on the field this season. Let's face it, there isn’t much point to updating a uniform if you aren’t going to wear it.

On the bright side Russell has finally done something right, the last traces of the awful three-dimensional honeycomb are gone. Hopefully this signals the end of Russell trying to force the pattern (all uniforms with honeycomb patterning are on clearance at the campus bookstore). The honeycomb is a great idea and executed fantastically on the alternate helmets but not the jerseys. Perhaps if the apparel provider would like to keep the honeycomb motif they could opt for something more subtle like Under Armour did with the numbers for the Northwestern Wildcats.

If these are the jerseys the Yellow Jackets will truly be wearing on Saturdays it will be interesting to find out why all the promotional media used the throwbacks and why the players wore throwbacks to the ACC Kickoff event. It could be that the Yellow Jackets will wear these in addition to the throwbacks. Ever since the institute signed a ten year deal with Russell Athletic in 2008 they have had two white jerseys a year (due to the fact that they wear white home and away), so this could just be the secondary with the throwback being the primary. At last year’s Georgia Tech Fan Day the players wore what ended up being the away jersey. It should be noted that those uniforms were their home uniforms in 2012. Perhaps there is a pattern, the home jerseys from one year becomes the away uniform the next, allowing the Yellow Jackets to have two white jerseys while only creating one new uniform a year.

So despite the appearance of these updated home uniforms from 2013, I still strongly believe the Yellow Jackets listened to fan opinion last season and will be wearing the overwhelmingly well received throwbacks as their home uniform for their 2014 season and wearing the updated 2013 uniform on the road.

White Out Voting

The Georgia Tech athletics department has decided to let fans vote on this year's White Out game t-shirt design as announced via their Twitter account August 4. The annual White Out game will take place during the October 4 conference play opener in Atlanta against ACC Coastal Division opponent Miami Hurricanes.

The tweet links fans to the institute's official athletics website when they are presented a poll with three options to choose from. All three shirts have the teams, the words "white out," and a Georgia Tech logo, and all but one have the date on which the game will be played.

Fans have through 11:59 p.m. August 7 to vote for their favorite, a mere four days of voting.
